Why is Knowing Windspeed Important?

One of the main reasons that airports, helipads and airstrips have variegated windsocks is because the stripes tell a story. They tell you wind speed. Approximately how many knots or km/h the wind is blowing.

The windsock will inflate partially or fully depending on the wind speed and wind strength. Knowing wind speeds and direction are key to landing your aircraft safety.
